What the fuck is with the US service economy right now, seriously? The last five years has been one gigantic transition zone from genuine and sincere customer service to automation and incapacitation hell. And I am not even referring to the amount of outsourced industries and organizations that we have to deal with, leave them aside. I'm talking about the people we deal with every day in the states in stores and on phones. Does anyone know how to listen anymore? Everything is streamlined, everyone "goes by the books." Are we g*d-damned machines? There is NO ROOM for EXCEPTIONS.
What's the latest: I open a credit card, I can't increase the credit limit from $500.....my credit is very good, my doctor tells me he is prescribing a medication because he is "going by the books," the apple store calls and tells me to pick-up my computer that I am paying to have repaired EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNDER A WARRANTY I PAID EXTRA TO BE ON and when i get there, they say it is not ready yet....and they can make no special offer to me even when THEY f*ed up.
Maybe this is just me transitioning from small town midwest america to everyone is a foreigner pacific rim california. I was in Japan town today and an older woman started talking to me about this very issue. (I didn't bring it up if you can believe it.) She said, there are too many foreigners here, and they all keep to their separate groups, and they are all out to rip everyone off. They force good americans out, now we are all living in Nevada in suburban hell. This woman was of asian ancestory, yet she was an american born and raised in California. She said others thought she was one of those foreigners, and she doesn't blame them - she looks like one.
